CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2022-2023
SCHOLARSHIP WINNER, CHRISTOPHER GROSSMAN!

Middlesex PTO awards scholarship to Christopher Grossman!

The recipient of the 2023 Middlesex Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) Scholarship is Christopher Grossman, a 2023 Cumberland Valley High School graduate from Carlisle.

Grossman will be attending Elizabethtown College in the fall to study mathematics and secondary education.

During his senior year at Cumberland Valley High School, Grossman served as an intern in the fifth grade at Middlesex Elementary, where his passion for teaching has grown, in part through mentoring from his former fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Sevcik.

In his scholarship application essay, Grossman wrote about the impact Mrs. Sevick had on his life.

Mrs. Sevcik saw in me what I didn’t see in myself,” Grossman wrote. “She saw a loud mouthed, talkative fifth grader who loved math and loved to help my classmates. She encouraged me to have the confidence to ‘teach’ the class math skills and gave me the opportunity to go one on one with my classmates who were struggling. I loved doing this and it gave me the idea that teach can be fun.”

Grossman’s experience as an intern further shaped his future goals.

“Teaching is challenging but that is part of the reason I want to teach,” he wrote. “I want to continue to be challenged throughout my life and make a difference in the lives of the next generation. I want to take everything I have learned and become the best teacher I can be.”
